Niru Shrestha: Improved Cookstoves Entrepreneur

Ms Niru Shrestha, woman entrepreneur from WEE Nepal Project of Center for Rural Technology, Nepal got awarded by ENERGIA Women Entrepreneurship Award on her success in selling improved cookstoves. Ms Shrestha got the training for entrepreneurs from the  WEE Nepal Project and later she set up shop and started selling biomass cookstoves and components.

Ms Shrestha has been in cookstoves business for more than 13 years,  initially She was constructing built-on-site mud chimney stoves and now biomass she is selling biomass cookstoves and components for fixed mud stoves.
Ms Shrestha has established city-based suppliers and engaged more than 100 other women – who have also been trained within the Women’s Economic Empowerment Programme – as local sales agents. During the fiscal year of 2015/16 alone, she sold over 6,100 improved cookstoves.

Ms Shrestha is now busy in marketing her products and establishing sub-dealerships across the district. Ms Shrestha has further planned   to coordinate and cooperate with  government and non-government organizations, local financial institutions and banks for improved cookstoves.

Niru Shrestha has become successful in the business of  improved cookstoves and has also provided many other local women job opportunity as well.
